Faster Than Light: Entry 1

I've developed a sudden addiction to FTL: Faster Than Light. Herein are the adventures of the Starship(s) Indomitable, and her crew, the finest crew in this black hell we call space.

Captain's Log, Day 1: I am the newly minted commander of the Starship Indomitable, a Kestrel-class cruiser (whatever the hell that means). I've been given information critical to the survival of our tattered and beaten Federation, and it's up to Indomitable to see it safely across the galaxy. Heh.

A stout and worthy vessel!

I am joined by my conscripts enthusiastic volunteers, Jack (the pilot), Frederick (weapons), and Narth (engineering). Godspeed to us all.

Captain's Log, Day 2: The computer is babbling at me; it's something completely unimportant about "doors" and closing them to prevent fire or some pedantic quibbling. Surely I can leave these matters to my trusty crew.

First Jump: On my first of many lightspeed jumps, I encounter a distress signal. Being the very model of a modern major etc., I cannot help but send an away team to investigate. We find the blasted ruins of an abandoned colony, and in that we find Aleksandr. He will make a fine member of this enthusiastic all-volunteer crew.

This relationship ends poorly.

I assign him to babysit the shields. Unfortunately, I've apparently clicked the "dismiss" button, which I can only assume meant Aleksandyr would rather jump out the airlock than babysit the shields. What a right bastard.

Second Jump: Pirates! Finally some action! The Indomitable immediately takes two laser blasts and a missile to the Shields room, rupturing the hull and knocking out our shields.

Aleksandr was getting spaced one way or the other. Traitorous swine!
More hits! Fires break out in Weapons! Frederick dies in hard vacuum while attempting to repair the hull breach in Shields. It looks bad for our intrepid crew! After some momentary panic (and the sacrifice of bold Frederick), Shields are repaired, but Weapons now consists entirely of fire, a fire in which Narth has the good graces to immediately die.

Everything is fire and death.

Life support is also offline, and Jack sprints away from flying the starship (a questionable decision) to go fix the oxygen, which is rapidly running out.

Something tells me he isn't going to make it.

Jack manages to repair life support just as the oxygen levels reach dangerously low proportions! I open all the doors so that the newly-created oxygen can spread throughout the ship.

This, too, was a questionable decision.

The newly-minted O2 instantly diffuses to unbreathably low levels. Jack buys the farm, presumably along with the rest of the Federation.

The good starship Indomitable seems to be domitable after all.

Mourn the death of millions! Restart.
